The events leading up to Easter were traumatic for Jesus and His followers. As I re-read the story I’m so aware of Jesus’ isolation from His friends. The way He ended up praying alone at Gethsemane and then being deserted when He was arrested. Running in parallel is the story of Peter, so eager to show Jesus how strong he was but totally unable to do the things he said he would in Jesus’s greatest hours of need. The fact that Jesus died for Peter, His friend, who deserted Him and then restored him after He rose from the dead cries out to me about the Jesus who also loves me, and died for me. We don’t deserve forgiveness but He makes it possible. We don’t deserve eternal life but He freely gave Himself so we might enjoy forever with Him. What a wonderful, gracious Saviour! Ian
